why you should do it
Hydroponics are a great way to grow things. For starters, you don’t need a yard. And hydroponics uses less water than soil growing. You can plant 4 times the amount of crops in the same space as soil farming, and you can grow all year long.
how you can do it
- You can purchase hydroponic systems online, or you can DIY it. You'll need a grow system, lights, pH control kit at minimum.
- Pick what you want to grow! Just about any plant can be grown hydroponically, but for beginners, it is best to start small. The best choices are herbs and vegetables that grow quickly, require little maintenance, and do not need a broad range of nutrients.
- When setting up your light system, make sure to put it on a timer so that the lights come on and go off at the same time each day.
- Make your room perfect for hydroponics. The ideal humidity for a hydroponic grow room is from 40 to 60 percent relative humidity. Higher humidity levels — especially in rooms with poor air circulation — can lead to fungal problems. Ideal temperatures are between 68 and 70 F. High temperatures may cause plants to become stunted, and if the water temperature gets too high, it may lead to root rot.
