There are three 'leading' forms of poetry: free form, prose, and rhyming. So far, you have only seen free form, which usually looks like free-standing lines arranged by their own internal logic. There are existing stuctures that can be used to compose a free form poem, but it can also be a crutch. It's up to you to decide what your writing needs.

This paragraph, however, is a prose poem. Prose is simply when the line of text (a verse) is contained within a paragraph. That's it. The last option is to rhyme, which is fine, but in time the use of that has declined in favor of sophistication of line.
